Six month check up

7/8/2016

I had the chance to do a quick health check up today and it gave me a chance to check the progress of some numbers besides my weight loss.  I had my last checkup on January 8th, which is when it really struck home that I needed to do something about my health.  If you know me or read my blog, you know that I procrastinated and missed my February deadline to begin my experiment of going without sugar and flour.  In fact, I’m pretty sure that my health because worse during the month of February as I overloaded on sweets and my favorite foods to “get the cravings out of my system”.

March 1st finally arrived and I started down the no sugar, no flour, no processed foods, and no milk route to see if I’d survive.  Well, I did survive and even blogged daily about my experience here on the website.  Since that day, I haven’t looked back and each week without my favorite foods has become easier as my memory of them fades.
So, here’s a quick overview of my numbers for those of you that still don’t think it’s worth trying the experiment, but struggle with health issues.
Weight Loss – By the “official” scales at 2 different offices, I recorded a 42lb loss, though I’m pretty sure it’s more than that.

BMI dropped 5 points.

Blood Pressure

My Systolic dropped 24 points.
My Diastolic dropped 6 points.
Cholesterol
Overall cholesterol dropped 54 points.
My LDL cholesterol dropped 33 points.
My HDL dropped 8 points.  (which was my one negative issue).

Triglycerides were more than cut in half.  Dropping 67 points.

Now, don’t get me wrong.  I’m very pleased with the progress I’ve made and the improvements I’ve felt through these months.  The unfortunate thing is that even after all this, I’m still considered quite unhealthy by government standards.  As I look at where I should be with the numbers, I can’t help but reflect on how terribly unhealthy I was just four months ago.  I’m still considered obese, so I’ve still got a ways to go.

I guess my message to you has to be not to wait much longer to try a healthy way of taking charge of your life.  Visit your doctor and check your numbers to get that final motivation if needed.  Today helped me realize how happy I was that I didn’t continue procrastinating and waste these months of progress.   Just make the decision to give it a shot for a few weeks and then see what happens.
Keep in mind you have my support.
