What is FIGID?

FIGID press is a small publishing and support company I started when I released my first book, No Sweets For Santa. FIGID, which stands for Finally I Got It Done, describes my emotion of completing this great story that took me years.

What does FIGID do?

My goal is to use the knowledge gained in the past years and help others who want to feel the same sense of accomplishment I do. I know what it’s like to have a great story, but not knowing the next step in getting it out to the public. Sometimes there are so many options out there, that the choices can be overwhelming to a person new to publishing and printing.

The best way to describe what I do is by calling it BOOK SHEPHERDING.  A book Shepherd is someone that can coach you through any part of the book creation process.  Whether you need some help with the initial set up as you begin your journey, or if you need a hand sorting through quotes and determining the best printing options, I want to help you figure out what works best for your needs.

I want to sit down with you and talk about your goals for printing your book and then help you lay out a roadmap for success. Whether you want to print 1 or 1,000 copies of your work, there's something out there that will work great for you and can be affordable. I understand that money can be tight, so we can look at ways for you to raise money through online services like Kickstarter.com or local events. We can also try to get the word out through your community using various methods.

What does FIGID get out of it?

Beyond the satisfaction of helping others get the same feeling of publishing their work, we can talk through your needs and figure out what is within your means of compensation. Most of my consulting and services could be covered with copies of your book that I can sell through my publishing banner. I know money is tight, so we can work out a trade for most things I can help you with.

I don't want to "own" your work or ask for any rights or ongoing commissions. You worked hard for your idea and I want to help get you started. The biggest difference between myself and other small publishers is that I won't be asking you sign any long term contracts or pay monthly fees after you are forced to buy a certain number of books from me. While I might not have the resources the "big" publishers have, I can try to tailor a plan to your specific needs. In the end, you will still need to do a lot of footwork to make your book a success, I can help you with knowledge and give you the tools, but you will have to work at making it big.
